McLaren Artura REVIEW IN USA

The McLaren sports car line-up consists of the 570S, 540C, 600LT, MSO X, and 620R. In 2021, McLaren Automotive launched the sixth model in its Sports Series, the Artura (named after King Arthur). The British manufacturer has promised that each model in this new range will be the most luxurious supercar ever built. So how does the new McLaren measure up? 

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE

Mclaren Artura is powered by a new hybrid twin-turbo V-6 engine that produces a whopping 671 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque!. The 7.4 kWh Li-ion battery pack can provide 11 miles when operating in all-electric mode. Artura reaches 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds. The electric battery can be charged to 80% in 2.5 hours.

When the EV mode is engaged, the Artura has a top speed of 80 mph. On the other hand, in track mode, it will reach a top speed of 205 mph. Carbon-ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers adapted from LT models offer excellent stopping power and, at their stiffest setting, Tenneco adaptive dampers work to impart a crisp, stable feel. Of course, the Artura is not as amazing on the track as some of McLaren’s more exotic models, such as the 765 LT, and it does not offer a high downforce that enhances cornering speeds as well.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

The Artura is pure McLaren design: sporty, sharp and full of character . If we take into account the McLaren launches closest to the Artura, the truth is that the new model does not look so ornate or with aerodynamics as a protagonist in its forms. This does not mean that this McLaren Artura does not offer an aesthetic where the demands of cooling and aerodynamics set the tone, although doing so in a more subtle and better integrated way to achieve an aggressive image, but not excessive.

The basis for its development is a state-of-the-art carbon monocoque , released with the model and designed to be compatible with hybrid systems due to the handicaps that this represents in terms of space and weight. The result could not be better, because the Artura weighs just 1,498 Kg.

INTERIOR

The cabin of the McLaren Artura is that of a strict two-seater, however thanks to the use of the new carbon fiber monocoque and a new design of the seats, heights of up to 1.90 meters can be accommodated in the Artura. We are not talking about a GT type car, however McLaren wanted to offer a practical vision of its supercar in order to provide a certain level of comfort and ergonomics in its access to the Super Series range.

The overall design is very sporty and focused on the driver . The driving position consists of a sports steering wheel with minimal presence of integrated controls, but in which the fully digital instrument panel is fixed. Thus, the regulation of the steering wheel with respect to the driver guarantees the best visibility regardless of their location. In parallel, McLaren has installed a multimedia system with an 8″ touch screen where all the functions of the vehicle are included and from where we can regulate everything from navigation to radio.
