Lotus Emira REVIEW IN CANADA
When it comes to sports cars, nothing has more prestige than the Lotus brand. For more than four decades, they have been making some of the most exciting, powerful and beautiful cars in the world that are incredibly fun to drive. The newest addition to their line up, the Lotus Emira has taken this heritage and built upon it with cutting edge technology that provides an unmatched level of luxury and speed. Here’s our comprehensive review of this new sports car so you can decide if it’s the right choice for you!
The Lotus Emira is the first Lotus developed under the umbrella of the Chinese giant Geely and it is not only the replacement for the Lotus Elise , Lotus Exige and Lotus Evora, it will be the last Lotus without hybridization or electrification. A true tribute to the past of the brand and to internal combustion.

The Emira is built on a new platform, made from extruded aluminum, adhered together with a very strong industrial glue. It is the system that Lotus has used to build cars for the last two decades, and we could consider its frame as a profound evolution of the one present in the Lotus Evora, with whom it even shares a wheelbase. It is a more technological car, more practical, more versatile, and heavier than the Elise or Exige.
ENGINE AND PERFORMANCE
The Lotus Emira is available with two engine options. The base engine will be a four-cylinder turbo of Mercedes-AMG origin, the same M139 of handcrafted construction that we can find in the sportiest A-Class. Lotus fine-tunes it and mounts it in the Emira with a maximum output of 360 hp, one hp below its German specification. This engine is connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The top of the range is still the 3.5 V6 engine supercharged by a Toyota compressor, a 400 hp engine that can be associated with a six-speed manual gearbox or an automatic gearbox.
EXTERIOR DESIGN
Perhaps it is because of its small LED lights or its very short overhangs, but it is a compact-looking car. Although it is the aerodynamics that dictate the shape of the bodywork, Lotus has dispensed with active aerodynamic solutions to channel the air. The large air intakes for the engine and the beautiful rear, which reminds us of the huge openings present at the rear of the Evija.

INTERIOR
Lotus wants us to stop thinking of its cars as compact, awkward, under-equipped machines. In the Lotus Emira they have decided to incorporate into the car storage solutions in the doors and center console, USB ports to charge mobile devices and even automatic emergency braking.

In addition, they have pampered the ergonomics and finishes of the vehicle. The sports seats and steering wheel are upholstered in suede leather and the controls on the center console and steering wheel have great apparent quality. A 12.3-inch digital instrumentation accompanies the central screen of the infotainment system, compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Lotus wants owners of an Emira to use it on a daily basis and use it for long trips. For this reason, behind the seats there is a space of 151 liters for travel bags and in the front trunk, of 208 liters, there is room for a large suitcase.
