Review of Isuzu D-Max
With a redesigned interior and a host of technological features, D-Max has always been ahead of its competitors. When it was first launched in 2002, it was one of Australia’s top selling light commercials – but that time may be over. In 2016, Ford Ranger overtook Isuzu for number 1 spot and has remained there ever since. But now that a new D-Max is upon us, will it be able to fight back? And do these changes make it good enough to reclaim its title?
Engine and Performance
Offering a 3.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder Diesel engine, producing 140KW of power and 450Nm of torque with all-wheel drive. It has an impressive 8.3L/100km fuel consumption in combined cycle driving, which makes it one of Australia’s most fuel efficient trucks on sale today. Having driven it on several occasions, I can say that it never lets you down on hills, whether going up or down them and is probably one of the most dependable engines in its class.
With its chiseled grille, sweeping headlights and flared wheel arches, there’s no doubting that it looks rugged. It’s available in both regular cab and double cab configurations. The new, larger design gives it a commanding presence and makes it look particularly tough. The front bumper has been reworked with a large air dam, while LEDs are available for side mirrors and daytime running lights. All variants come with a new front skid plate as standard. There’s also been some subtle changes made to the headlights; they now have an integrated fog light at each corner of their housings.
The new Isuzu D-Max features a number of interior features that make it comfortable for those times when you have to spend long periods of time inside. The front seats have been designed to be supportive without being too tight, and there’s plenty of headroom for tall drivers. The cabin also has ample room for storing objects – especially important if you use your car as a pick up truck – as well as vents in all four corners that provide excellent circulation. Infotainment system consist of a 9″ touchscreen display with speakers to keep you entertained on the road.
In terms of safety, there are a number of impressive features. First and foremost, you get seven airbags. 9 inch touch-screen media system with navigation then active lane control will automatically steer your car back into its lane if it detects that you’re drifting while driving. in addition to these features, you’ll also have blind spot monitoring with cross traffic alert (essential on a car so tall), rear cross traffic alert and auto high beam headlight assist to make sure your vehicle stays safe when driving at night or in foggy conditions. It even comes with hill start assist that makes driving on steep hills much safer by braking for a few seconds after hitting the accelerator before taking off.
Isuzu has finally released its all-new 2022 D-Max ute, which is being touted as the best yet. The vehicle’s fuel efficiency and range have been significantly improved over the previous version, making it the perfect choice for those with larger families or who want to carry more passengers without sacrificing on comfort and space.
